Optimization of LaGrange College Admissions Counselors’ Paths Using Student Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
LaGrange College attracts hundreds of freshman students across the Southeast each year. It would be beneficial to the college’s Office of Admissions to optimize admission counselors’ paths to reduce expenses on mileage and time. TheK-means algorithmwill be used to cluster students into groups based upon physical locations and to locate regional centers for the states of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Additionally, a solution to the Traveling Salesman algorithm will be implemented to find optimal routes to visit students in each cluster.

Effort, Race Gaps and Affirmative Action: a Structural Policy Analysis of Us College Admissions
Using the college admissions model of Hickman (2010), I study the implications of Affirmative Action (AA) in US college admissions for student academic achievement (prior to college) and college placement outcomes. I argue that the competition among high-school students for college seats is similar to a multi-object all-pay auction. The link to auctions provides access to a set of tools which c...
متن کاملUsing Business Intelligence in College Admissions: A Strategic Approach
Higher education often lags behind industry in the adoption of new or emerging technologies. As competition increases among colleges and universities for a diminishing supply of prospective students, the need to adopt the principles of business intelligence becomes increasingly more important. Data from first-year enrolling students for the 2006-2008 fall terms at a private, master’s-level inst...
متن کاملStudent effort, race gaps, and affirmative action in college admissions: theory and empirics
In this dissertation, I develop a framework to investigate the implications of Affirmative Action in college admissions on both study effort choice and college placement outcomes for high school students. I model the college admissions process as a Bayesian game where heterogeneous students compete for seats at colleges and universities of varying prestige. There is an allocation mechanism whic...
متن کاملStudent Portfolios and the College Admissions Problem ∗
We develop the first Bayesian model of decentralized college admissions, with heterogeneous students, costly portfolio applications, and uncertainty about student calibers. Students face a nontrivial portfolio choice, and colleges choose admissions standards that act like market-clearing prices. We solve for the two college model equilibrium, deriving a “law of demand”. The lesser college impac...
متن کاملA Supply and Demand Model of the College Admissions
We develop the first Bayesian model of decentralized college admissions, with heterogeneous students, costly portfolio applications, and noisy college evaluations. Students face a nontrivial portfolio choice, and colleges choose admissions standards that act like market-clearing prices. We derive the two college model equilibrium, deriving a “law of demand”. Surprisingly, the worse college migh...
